Sketch is a digital design app built by Bohemian Coding, a small studio based in The Hague. Released in 2010, it more or less defined the modern UI design workflow and was the default tool for app and web design for years before Figma arrived.
It's a native macOS app rather than a browser tool, paired with a web app for sharing prototypes, handing off to developers and leaving comments. You get vector editing, reusable components (Symbols), shared libraries, and a plugin ecosystem.
Pricing is a subscription, with a cheaper option for solo users and a Mac-only one-off licence still available. Real-time collaboration exists but the editing core stays on the Mac.
