ElevenLabs is an AI voice company started in 2022 by Piotr Dąbkowski and Mati Staniszewski, two friends from Poland. Its models turn written text into speech that keeps natural intonation and pacing.
Beyond text-to-speech, it can clone a voice from a short sample, dub video into other languages while keeping the original speaker's voice, and transcribe audio with its Scribe model. There is also a platform for building voice agents that hold a conversation.
Dąbkowski worked on machine learning at Google and Staniszewski came from Palantir. They built the company around a simple complaint: synthetic voices in most apps still sounded flat.
