Notes, documents, wikis and shared workspaces hold the working memory of a team: plans, contracts, internal knowledge. The tools in this category cover that ground without putting it all on US-hosted infrastructure. Some are open source and self-hostable, so the workspace sits on hardware you control. Others are hosted in the EU under GDPR. Several read and write standard Microsoft and ODF formats, so collaborating with the outside world still works. For European organisations, it's a way to keep day-to-day work inside European jurisdiction.
