Magic Earth

Romania

Privacy-focused navigation app from Romania with offline maps and no data collection.

European Alternative to:

Screenshot of Magic Earth

A navigation app from General Magic, a Romanian company based in Bucharest with deep automotive-mapping experience. Magic Earth is built on OpenStreetMap data and is free for personal use, with no ads and no account required.

What you get

  • Turn-by-turn voice navigation, online and offline, on iOS and Android
  • Live traffic, with rerouting based on community data
  • Speed-camera and hazard alerts
  • 3D map rendering and lane guidance
  • A dash-cam mode that records the road through the phone's camera

Where it sits

The maps are OpenStreetMap, kept up to date by the OSM community. The app, infrastructure and company are Romanian. There's no profile, no advertising network, no behavioural tracking; the team funds the consumer app from a separate automotive licensing business.

Honestly

Search isn't as good as Google Maps for some address types and reviews/places coverage is sparse, since Magic Earth is a maps app, not a Yelp. For pure driving navigation in Europe, with offline maps and no surveillance, it's one of the most polished options around and the price is hard to argue with.
